My Personal Picks for Running Gear

I am running the Long Beach Half Marathon this Sunday and as I have been suiting up for my long training runs the past month, it has sort of amused me how much GEAR I have acquired when I am in my full running uniform! More miles = more gear!

So I thought it might be fun to share some of my personal running fear, I mean running gear. I am cracking up at that unintentional typo, but I am going to leave it because it is making me laugh AND it is poignant.

Poignant because when I was training for my first half marathon last May, I WAS filled with lots of running fear. In fact, the fear is what motivated me. 13.1 looming over your head tends to be scary to a new runner.

Bye Bye Hot Pink Cast!

So Emma finally got the hot pink cast off on Monday afternoon. After seeing that stinky, dirty, Sharpie-ridden piece of fiberglass laying there, when the lady asked me if we wanted to save it, I had to politely decline. So we put it in the trash together and walked away both saying “bye bye cast!” and me adding, “hope to not see you again!”

She actually got around REALLY well in that thing over this past month. Totally surprised me. She could pretty much do anything and never even complained about it. In fact, she had a birthday party at a dance studio on Sunday where they learned and performed a routine and she was busting a move and shakin’ that arm like it was nothing!

But getting it off was difficult! I had no idea, and I wasn’t totally prepared.

We’re bringing Date Night back!

I really like my husband. I wrote about him here. He’s my favorite person to be around. But with both of us in constant “parent mode” and giving our kids 110% all of the time, it has left VERY little time for just the two of us. I am sure we are not the only parents struggling with this one!

Sure, we have our favorite Friday night which consists of getting the kids to bed, having a drink, and settling in to catch up on our mutually-loved DVR’d shows, but that doesn’t really count.

Recently we were talking about the last time we went out just the two of us. It had been 2 1/2 months. The time before that?
