Free Workshop for Families

I wanted to share a great, free workshop coming up hosted by Peter Sahin of South County Law Group. It’s a seminar on what you can do to make sure your children are protected in case anything happens to you (gulp) in terms of guardianship as well as your personal assets.

It is completely FREE, in fact, you can bring your kids and they even provide free childcare!  And, as a bonus, one lucky family will receive a day at Disneyland!

South County Law Group joined Tiny Oranges as a sponsor a few months back. It was ironic, because we had been meaning to meet with a lawyer to do a trust and all the “legal” stuff as far as securing guardians for Emma since she had been born.  Which has now been almost THREE years!

It is one of those things that NO ONE wants to think about. What would happen if something were to happen to both of us? It really is a terrible thought. So, we kept putting it off, and then Peter came on board, and I thought – this is a sign it is time for us to finally do this!  So, we set up a meeting with him to get the ball rolling. 

What I loved about his firm is that it is very personal, and his service is very personal. He is not just a transactional attorney- but will be there for you as your family grows and changes.   He was extremely nice, and we felt very comfortable with him.  He was not aggressive or pushy, and I felt like he genuinely cared.

We were educated on what happens with estate taxes and probate if a trust is not in order.  And what can happen to your children if you don’t have documents clearly specifying who you want to care for them (both short term and long term) if God forbid, something were to happen to you. It was downright scary – and worth every penny just to have the peace of mind that we have all this in order now.

He helped us design and prepare a living trust, prepare temporary and permanent guardianship documents for our children, as well as other important documents to make sure we are protected.   

However, what I found most touching about the service he provides is something that goes way beyond finances and assigning guardians.  He actually records a CD of your conversation on how you would like your children raised and the values that are important to you.  To me, that was priceless.
