Emma and I visited this new park last week and it was worth the drive! Not to mention the fact that I think it was 80 degrees in January. Gotta love So Cal “winters!” In any case, I found this park on the fabulous website, www.funorangecountyparks.com, which was formerly OC Play Parks. The site has gotten a new name and a fabulous new look. She features parks throughout all of Orange County, and the site now has them divided into South County Parks and North County Parks. In any case, Oso Viejo Park at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center in Mission Viejo is definitely worth checking out. The surrounding area is beautiful. It backs up to lush scenery, and all around the park, there are cute little bench and coffee table sitting areas, picnic tables, and even a circle of brown Adirondack chairs to hang out. Definitely a park to bring a picnic lunch to! The play equipment is great, including two huge 3 story tunnel slide for older kids. The sand was very fine and soft and there are clean adjacent restrooms.
Click here for map and directions and more info. Note: When you turn into the Norman P. Murray parking lot, you can make a left and park in those spaces. The playground is down the little walk way once you past the restrooms. It is just hard to see the equipment when you first turn in the lot, but you will be in the right spot.

You snapped some awesome photos of this park! I returned to the park today and had a hilarious time debating which slide is faster. Looking at your photo above – is it the one on the left or the one on the right? The faster slide sent many a kid flying out without being able to land on their feet. I personally know of 3 moms with elbow injuries from the faster slide. There are rumors of a broken arm.
The moms at the park got into such a debate that I was nominated to test out our theories. One mom was in charge of the stopwatch while I ran up to the top and tested both slides. I tested them more than once. It took 3.7 seconds to go down the slide on the right and 3.4 seconds to go down the slide on the left.
LEFT=Fastest (no turn in tunnel) and the RIGHT=Slower (easier to put on the brakes). See what I’ll do in the name of park expert to protect your tiny oranges!
