Pacific Strider Bikes {Coupon Code + Giveaway!}

Now that the weather is warming up I am sure we are all spending more time outside and that is why I am so excited to share with you this BRILLIANT bike for those of you (like me) whose kids cannot yet ride the big kid two-wheeler. Pacific Strider Bikes will also be giving away one of their awesome PREBike’s this week along with offering a special coupon code for Tiny Oranges readers, so make sure to read the details below!

The Strider PREBike is a balance bike designed specifically for children ages 2 to 5 and essentially gives kids the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike in a safer & easier way…by learning to balance before they learn to pedal.

The Strider bike has no pedals or brakes, weighs less than 7 pounds and the seat is adjustable to grow with the child.

Children typically begin with the bike by straddling the seat and walking the bike.  As they grow more comfortable, they sit down and begin doing longer strides, and eventually learn to balance and lift their feet and coast along.

The great thing about a Strider is that children no longer have to use tricycles or training wheels to learn to ride a big kid bike!

The steering is stiff at first, allowing the child to learn with the bike. And when they do ‘crash’, the handles lay flat, so that they avoid getting the handle in the chest or the head. And best of all, it’s super light and has puncture-proof foam tires.

The nice family that owns Pacific Strider Bikes in San Diego contacted me about doing a review, and seeing that my almost 5 year old looks a little ridiculous riding her tricycle with her too long legs, I thought it would be a perfect time to try it out since we haven’t introduced the two-wheeler yet.

Our most favorite place to practice with our daughter and her Strider is the open blacktop on the Newport Beach Peninsula at 15th Street by Newport Elementary.  Great open space for learning!  Here’s her cool ride in her favorite color…

She has been doing really well and LOVES her bike!    The best part is that the bike is so close to the ground it is not “threatening” to her and she is not scared of balancing because as soon as she loses her balance, she just puts her feet down.   She has toppled sideways at times, but again, since it is close to the ground it has not been a big deal.

I can see now why they call it the “Strider” as the kids learn by doing longer and longer strides like this…

Until they feel comfortable putting their feet up and balancing.

She is totally getting it!  I don’t think it will be long until she is able to ride a real two-wheeler and  I think it’s exciting that we can bypass the whole training wheel thing. Training wheels to me did always did seem sort of counter intuitive because they do the balancing for the child.

And the best part is, when she is on to her “Big Girl Bike”  we can pass on the Strider to little sis!  Which is perfect because the seat is totally adjustable!
