Emma (my five-year-old) and I have had some power struggles this summer so recently I had to lay down the law with some family rules because this mommy had just HAD it!
So I made a chart of “Family Rules” with three things she is to work on each day and at the end of the day if she does a good job following them she gets a sticker.
{Incidentally, I have no idea if this is a good or bad discipline tactic, but sometimes you just have to try anything when you are at the end of your rope.}
Then one day last week she asked me for some paper and a pen to draw before I put Morgan down for a nap. When I came out I saw that Emma had stuck this to the wall right below her “Family Rule” chart.
Yes, this would be “Jennifer Chart” of “Family Rules.” With rule number one being, “Listen to Emma.”
Oh my gosh you guys, this child gives me a run for my money, let me tell you. But I have to give her one for creativity!

LOL that’s HILARIOUS! btw, i think that’s a great little external motivational tool … sometimes they just need it!
Ok this made me laugh out loud!!! I have a 2 year old Emma who is also very “strong willed” and I feel like this post is my future! Emma must be a good named for strong willed little girls!
Oh Kelly, my Emma was strong willed out of the womb and I have to say at 5 years she is exactly the same! But one thing is sure about having a spirited child – there are a lot of laughs and never a dull moment!!!
